R151 shifter fork ID
« on: Jun 15, 2005, 03:32:44 PM »
Really need some help here. I am rebuilding my daughters 1986 Turbo EFI pickup tranny and found the #1 shifter fork was broke. I ordered one from the local dealer and it is different from the original. The new one is not as wide and the offset in the 2 shaft bosses is gone. Parts man says it is right, need to make sure. Got the rebuild kit from Marlin so I came here for help.
Thanks

there may be a differance between an r151 and a 151f, also, the v6 and turbos may be slightly different, but share alot of the same parts, so make sure that he ordered a 4cyl turbo, not a v6

It sounds like you got the proper updated narrower fork.
It must have two shift shaft holes in it.
One is oversize, and the other fits tight on the shift rod.

It will only go togeather the proper way.
If the fork is installed wrong, it will not engage into the 1/2 rev, shift collar.

Remember to use red loctite on the 10 mm fork bolt threads.
