wow. Well my rears are kinda shot so i was thinkin about ordering new ones off marlin and going to the junk yard for the Chevy's. so on a scale from one to ten how hard was it to re-mount everything

crawlerdan

can you weld? if so, its pretty easy, mount new hanger 11 inches forward of the original, and wala!

thebigl2005

yea i can shorta, but i also know people who can. so how much of a lift did it give you?

crawlerdan

you can see those springs in action next to me screen name.

crawlerdan

its not lift that i was after, but in the front it was 3-4 inches rear about the same, my truck was only 6 inches taller than a reg 4x4 toy with 39s on it, i was more after flexibility :welcome:

thebigl2005

yea i know what you mean, thats why im not really into getting a pro comp. How did the reg yota fit 39s or did it have a lift.  by the way thanks  :respect:

crawlerdan

i had no bed, moved the front axle forward alot, like 6-8 inches, fiberglass fenders, and it was lifted 6 inches or so

thebigl2005

do you think i could put the front up front without moving the axle?, im thinking about getting rid of my bed but i havent found anything i like yet for a flat

crawlerdan

i guess i dont understand what your asking

thebigl2005

you said you moved you front axle quiet a bit, i was wondering if i had to do that to fit the rears up front, also i was looking at the marlin springs, should i get a leaf that has a lift, and if i did that what is, if there even is any, off set of the Chevy's leafs. I wanna be able to fit 35s or so on there.

crawlerdan

no you dont have to move it that far forward, i did, but you dont have to. marlins springs rock, but the cost is there, rear leaves are usually free, you got some already. if you put the rears in the front, chevs in the back, with a longer shackle. you should be able to fit 36-37 inch tires with a little trimming, 35s without :beerchug:

thebigl2005

so put the longer shackle with the chevy's

crawlerdan

thebigl2005

ok, but now back to the do i need to move my front axle?

crawlerdan

no you dont have to, i did cause im weird, but you dont have to :chew:

thebigl2005

yea hey got another question, what did you gear your wheels at for the 36s?

crawlerdan

les scwab sells a steel wagon wheel for 45 dollars, talk to toybuilt, he still works there. but if you run a 12.5 or smaller you can get by with you stock rims if you have to :burnout:

thebigl2005

my bad i mean what did you gear your axles at, people are telling me 5:29 but i have also heard that those over heat

crawlerdan

run 529s, no overheating probs, i had 5.38s, but i had 1 ton chev axles on my truck. go 529, youll love em!  :burnout:

thebigl2005

yea i thought so but that whole over heating thing. Sweet, got any other advice for the suspension

crawlerdan

ya, ill chat more tonight, back to work

thebigl2005

have a good no, workin hard or hardly workin  :bananabeer:

Chevy's work pretty well for a rig thats heavy such as a runner or a loaded x-cab.  Put them on a truck with no bed and you'll be lucky to get12" of travel out of them.  They are uber long rock anchors and if you use double shackles your just asking for unloading issues.  Ive ran the typical setup that PBB and other say are the best they are all full of bull pucky.   There is a reason Ive refined my suspension to the point its at now.  That refinement sure as hell doesnt include chevy's ;)  My truck is extremely stable offroad.  Sure it does real bad on a ramp but when was the last time you saw a rti ramp on the trail?
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

thebigl2005

so what do you got on your truck now, ive treid to read the 300 thread but i dont quite get it

WHITE_TRASH

Im running broncoII springs inboarded.  They are a very good spring and they stand up to a lot of abuse without being so damned long.  The reap problem with chevy's other than they are too long is they are too stiff and you cn really soften them up at all.  With broncoII's or ranger's they start out way too soft so you can easily adjust how they react to obstacles offroad.  Mine are about perfect right now.

thebigl2005

What do you mean when you say inboarded? What type of fab work was there that needed to be done with the b2s

WHITE_TRASH

My springs are only 30.5" apart.  I moved the mount inside of the framerails instead of under them.  The broncoII's will need the mount moved ahead 6-7"

Skinny_Pedal

yes expand your horizons. i didnt go with bronco like white trash but something very similar. i havent got to test them yet but they are super flexy and were very cheap from the wrecking yard. just dont do chevies, try to do something unique.

go to a junk yard and just look at leaf springs, even off cars, older american cars. you will be amazed at what you can make work
Im an OG

thebigl2005

i get what your saying, the one thing i like about the b2 springs is i can get some for free, my friend has 3 of them and 2 are his part cars

yotaboy79

putting the stock rear springs up front will move your axle forward 1.5-2 inches be cause the center pin is in a different location and you will need cross over if it wasnt already mentioned
