hello all

i'm (finally) back on task with my resto/engine swap project. i've got the 2.4L/2RZ installed and ready to go but i still have problems with a few items:

hard stuff:

+engine wiring: haven't a clue as to how to connect the new motor to the 22RE wiring. i've got wiring charts but i'm no good at reading these damn things

easier stuff:

+radiator hoses: what are people using? will the taco intake/exhaust hoses work?

+fuel line: how have folx solved this problem? hard line or hose extension?

+oil pan/pickup tube: will T100 stuff work? i've got zero body lift and oem steering

+power steering hose: any ideas on marrying the taco stuff to the '85?

i can't pay much (some beers perhaps) if anyone wants to help (in SoCal). any kind of help would obviously be very welcome as i got about a month to get this thing rolling. TIA

don't think you'll be able to use the 22re puter and wires on the 2zr motor.
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

sorry, bad explanation. what i meant to say is that i'm not able to create a connection between the 2RZ CPU (and engine wiring) to power up the engine from the 22RE wiring harness. i'm clueless but not that clueless :)

Don't you have the 2zr wiring harness?

i do, all the engine wiring is connected up to the 2RZ ECU. i have no clue as to what cables need to tap into 22RE wiring harness, i.e. how to power up the 2RZ ECU, the starter, hook up the tach, the oil pressure, the water temp, etc. does that clarify?

Ok, you will need a wiring dig for both trucks. just find where the 2zr get power from and hook the ign. power to there. and same for tack, temp ect.

i have the factory manual for the '85 but not a complete one for the taco. i'll search for that. hopefully i'll be able to figure it out 'cause the '85 wiring diagrams are still a mystery to me :)

to simplify things (of course!) i got a mixed bag. the engine is from a 2000 taco, 2WD, 5 speed but the harness is from a '96. the two motors seemed identical side by side (i have the '96 but it has 100k+ miles) with the exception of a plug that goes right in between injectors 2 and 3 (no idea what it is yet). i figure if need be i can swap heads but i want to at least give the newer head a chance to start with the 96 CPU 'cause it's a much fresher motor.

maybe a knock or coolant temp sensor?  but usually best to stick with same year betwee eng/harness if pssible.

obviously i agree but junkyard parts have their own ways of shaping projects :)

For your power steering lines you will need to use a fitting from your current steering box (high pressure) and then sodder it to the line from the taco (high pressure).  As far as your radiator goes the top hose I just used a stock taco and cut some off at the radiator side.  the bottom one i cut in two and added a stainless steel quarter u bend to get it to the right spot.

For the 3rz swap in my Rocky I used the 3rz wiring harness, ECU and fuse box to just run the engine only.  I ran hot wires to the Rocky fuse block to run all of the body stuff.

i've posted some diagrams on a thread on pirate (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=361365) if anyone can lend me a hand with this, i'd be eternally grateful 'cause i'm sinking in the mud. i've managed to solve all other problems i still remain uncertain about the damn wiring. thanks
