Without doing severe damage to the bearings etc. :dunno:

It's ran for a about 1 min total on just assy lube trying to get it to work. I'm not going to chance running it any more.
I've tried like hell to get this thing running, 3rd engine in 2 years, I'm so freakin frustrated I'm ready to blow the f$$king thing up.
Now no matter what I seem to do I can't get any oil pressure.

A big block caddy with no water and oil will run about a mile.  A duster with a straight six will only run about a 1/4 mile.

Butt, how FAST will it do that 1/4 mile?!?!  :eyebrow:

It was pretty sweet.  We were actually pushing a VW rabbit at the time with the duster and it sure didn't make it far.  The caddy blew up in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night.  All of a sudden the temp pegged and we were like f it and kept going to try to get to the next town.  Man that pregnant dog was hot.  Then the oil psi dropped to zero.  It probably blew both head gaskets and all the oil pumped into the water jacket.  It never seized up, it just died and rolled to a stop.  Anyway, that was somewhere between Colorado and Wyoming and we hitchhiked home.  We left the car there.

Well to get back to the ? at hand, with lube your good for a few mins. at idle. butt if your not getting presser have you tried to prime the pump. (is this a 22r we're talking about?) you can maybe take the oil filter off and try to run some oil back down the hole.
you sure you put the key on the crank?
never had any trouble like this butt one time with a 440 mopar. kinda like a 22r in that the oil pump is up front on the block. but the oil filter is on the pump so it was EZ to prime it by taking off the filter and squirt some oil in that way. 22r won't be real EZ to do but worth a try.

I always like to unplug the coil and spin the motor over until the oil presure gauge comes up ! did ya put some oil in the filter before you put it on ?

Toyminator

What are you using to determine that you have no oil pressure? The stock gauge? Sender hooked up? Bad gauge? If it truly has no oil pressure it should sound like a diesel.

Duffil

ok...i just had the same "problem" when I dropped in my fresh mill.  1st of all, did you pack the pump with grease?  a lot of guys do this to "help it prime" and on a 22r, it won't pick up oil like that.  second, is the gauge in the correct galley?  put on a manual gauge to be sure...and the galleys between early and late blocks are different.  I ended up burning up a new starter trying to prime the SOB...it wouldn't show pressure.  you can remove the bolt that is on the side of the oil pump and pour oil down, just don't lose the spring...anyhow, once I just fired it, oil pressure came up right away...and let me know I had the sender in the wrong hole cuz it dumped 2 quarts in about 10seconds...sorry for rambling   good luck!

BLUCRUZ

Ok, I packed the pump, pulled the pan and checked that I did tighten the pickup tube bolts & inserted the paper gasket. Filled the filter full of oil & filled the oil galleys behind the filter full until it came back out the hole, I also back backfed the oil passage between the pump & the filter. I have the stock sending unit in the stock location & an autometer guage plumbed in the passage behind the motor mount. I can see oil movement in the line going to the guage at initial crank up but it only moves 1/4 inch then stops abruptly with no movement on the guage. I've followed the FSM to the letter here and the only thing I haven't checked is the crank bearings. I would hope those would be in speck since I just bought this rebuilt shortblock from a reputable shop. I have also tried 2 different oil pumps so thats not it either.

Any other Ideas, I need this rig running now!

i meant that the pump SHOULD NOT  be packed...

I've tried it both ways with both pumps & no difference either way

is it sucking air?  I mean if the pump or t-cover was gouged, that would keep it from pumping, right?

BLUCRUZ

I didn't notice any gouges or areas that would allow for that.

Yea, I'm totoally lost here, I triple checked everything & just went out and pulled the oil filter and the oil I put in it had drained out and no new oil was in it. It's just not priming itself.  :wall:

I always run a brush through the oil passages when I get a block back from the machine shop. It could be a blocked oil passage.

Have you pulled the valve cover off the see if any oil is actually moving, you have to bleed the oil through the line in order for the gauge to work. It's an idea

yup, he check!  I'm lost on this one. (not that's any big deal for me) oil pump's are preaty basic. must be a blocked passage.  :dunno:

never built a Toy motor yet but i know when ive built a few small blocks, always prime system by filling with oil then turning oil pump with drill or something.

Yea, it's not getting to the head, not even getting to the filter, I'm pulling the front cover back off today and going to clean out all the passages. I looked at my drive gear too and it's worn a bit so I'm going to make sure it's making good contact with the pump gear. There is a allen head bolt that is on the front of the block that blocks off the upper oil passage, I cannot remember if it was on or not when I put the front cover on. If it's missing, oil wil bypass the filter and go right back into the front cover without producing enough presure to read on the guage. I know it's something stupid like that, has to be right. :dunno:

by design, you can't prime a yota pump...other than by turning the engine over.

BLUCRUZ

:tantrum:  Still nothing, has been completely tore down and snaked out. None of the oil passages are plugged. Friend of mine said to pull a couple main caps & see if they put the main bearings in upside down, ie with the hole on the cap instead of the journal. He doubt's that's the case since I would still have pressure up to that point though. Most everyone I know local thinks I have a leak in the system that is not allowing the pump to fully prime. I'm going to go silicone happy tonite & put it back together one last time & try it.  I'm even going to put a shop vac on one of the oil galleys to try to pull oil up through the pump into the block. Wish me luck :crossed:
