The best deal I saw on a first Gen was an '83 shortbed (Dark Gray) that was parked by a random guy in front of a boathouse near my home.  I was only 15 at the time and begged my mom and her boyfriend to make an offer (it was $1200 obo at the time).  We test drove it, and I was in love (Marlin's truck going down a waterfall in Suprise Canyon in 4-Wheeler was my inspiration).  My mom thought it was too much, and my mom's boyfriend, who was the vioce of reason said  that it was a good deal but we should sit on it.  A week later my friends Dad bought it (for $600 and a 30/30), and it is running to this day, all it needed to run was a new Cat.  I still bring it up to my mom and it is a sore spot, Glad I got my '88 (another deal) but I still think about how built that '83 would be if we had bought it.  Unfortunately I made the mistake of getting a '78 Blazer (fun rig while it lasted) and blowing the engine before seeing the light.  I still wouldn't mind getting a 1st Gen if the opportunity presented itself.

Brandon, you sold your 83 ?? :dunno:  man that was a sweet lookin truck

so many guys dump the stock bed and go flatbed,  but i think the 1st gen beds are so unique,    i might make mine into a utility bed but i'll keep the stock 'appearance'

Mine was a steal in my opinion.  My buddy is currently building a fresh motor for it.  It just might become my DD if there are no major bugs detected.

Mine found me. I just changed it a bit. Mine is a daily driver mostly. I enjoy building them and restoring.
