Hey Yota are you planning on being at the trailhead when the Marlin gang is? 3pm ish on Friday? What is the speed like on 50? The Mammoth is probably going to be a slowpoke still by then, we can't do much more then 50-60, so we may need to get a head start ahead of you guys.

We will be docking the Battle Cruiser at the Placerville KOA (which is actually in Shingle Springs).

http://www.koa.com/where/ca/05429/ on Thrus. Sept. 15. thru Mon. Sept. 19

My sister is coming up from San Francisco to doggy sit so that will make our trail riding a lot more fun.

If I remember correctly we were going to meet about 3:00 ish at the trail head? If anyone wants to meet us at the campground to ride out to the trailhead or even stay there the night before with us, that would be really cool. My sister will be coming up about noon on Fri. Is there any better route for her to avoid traffic around Sacramento?

It's about 50 miles from the campground to the trailhead but we wanted to have a good reliable place to keep the dogs, my sister and the motorhome.

:beerchug:  It's getting closer by the minute!

if she times it right she can get through sac pretty smothly. most of the state workers dont get off work until 4pm. if she comes through sac anytime before 3 she will be in good shape. as for the route, thats pretty much it,80 out of the gay bay, to 50. just watch the 80/50 change/split sign. they are kind of confusing.

Lady Di

Thanks for the heads up. She'll be coming out first thing Friday morning, so she will probably plan it to be around Sac 9-10ish.
As far as getting to the trailhead. We're hoping to hook up with a caravan so we can just follow people in, but just in case, I was looking at our DeLorme mapping software, do we take 50 to Ice House Road and Ice House Road up to the trailhead? Is it well marked?

Twin 60, when were you planning on being at the trailhead?

50- Ice House. About 7-10 miles past Pollock Pines, you'll see the turn on the left. It's about half hour-45 mins. back to Loon from there.

i was kinda waiting to see what yall were plannin on doing. since you cant drink on the trail anymore,i figured i need to stop at icehouse bar before i get there. the turn off of icehouse road to the trail is Loon Lake, Wentworth springs, and if i rember right the sign is shot up a little and turned kinda sideways. you probly wont be going fast enough to miss it.

Lady Di

Well we don't plan on drinking till we get to where we are going for the night, so we'll probably pass you up at the bar  I'll check online for more directions, but we'll probably catch up to (or be passed by) some other caravaners along the way.
Can you drink when you are camped at Spider Lake or the springs?

yes, just make sure you are out of the jeep. aparently feinstein has commi-missioned a jeep cherokee outfitted with capabilities for the placer county sherrifs.

Duffil

yeah, I've seen that thing and it is built DAMN well...when last I was up there, the sheriff stopped ad BSd us a little bit and I checked the rig out.  The list of sponsors on the rear windows is rather extensive, and its all quality stuff.

Lady Di

considering the amount of experience we have on these trails, which is ZIP, we wouldn't be drinking while we were wheeling anyway.

Our original plan was to stop in the Dallas area, I don't think we're going to go much off that, we'll look at the campgrounds in the area and plan to meet up for the night if that's cool. Suks you cant come to the con!

From Dallas to Sacromento is right about 32 hours driving around 60-65mph.  I had to drive it with my mom atthe begining of summer and we were pulling my moms car behind it so we were trying to go the speed limit. We took rest stops about every 2 or 3 hours for food and bathroom.  The map book we had said it was only 27 hours but it was way off.  The rubicon is about 2 hours east of Sac so your driving time should be about 29-30 hours from Dallas to Placerville. Just giving you guys some advise on driving times.  hope it helps.

Thanks Hyena, we will be in Dallas the Sunday before the MCR4 so that gives us plenty of driving time to get to Placerville.
We are going to try to get to Fresno on Tues, Wed at the latest, stay a night or two there and then head up to the Shingles Springs KOA where we will plant the motorhome. Its about 6 miles E. of Placerville.
Fred, when will you be hitting the trails? If there is a group that is going in earlier in the day that would probably be better for us then having our first rock crawling experience in the dark.

We'll leave Fresno between 7 and 9 Thursday morning, grab some grub on the way up, and be @ Loon probably between 12 and 2. Hit the trail right away. We're probably going to cruise on through, screw around a bit on the way in and set up camp @ spyder for the first night. If you are in Fresno Thursday morning and want to tag along, let me know. I'll be towing and I've gotten a ticket for towing @ 62 so I tend to run around 60, we won't be setting any speed records.

Lady Di

Thanks, but my sister is coming up on Thursday night to visit (and doggie sit while we're on the trail), we weren't planning on hitting the trail till Friday.
So you are spending three nights on the trail? That sounds fun.

OK, who else is going out on Friday afternoon? I know the original plan was for the Marlin gang to be at Loon by Friday about 3, so that's sort of what we are shooting for.

I'll PM a few of the caravan origanizers and see who we can join.
