minimal lift crossover

people say you need to run 3" of lift on a straight axle truck to install crossover steering.  i want to prove them wrong...if there's a will, there's a way, right?

it seems that the way my truck currently sits(on what i think are stock, flat springs), there's a good deal of clearance between the oil pan and the front axle.  to get away with low lift and keeping the pitman arm/TRE from hitting the springs, i'd use a flat pitman arm.  drag link to frame clearance would be solved by using a tall bumpstop to avoid pesky metal on metal contact.

anybody tried antyhing like this?

If you push the axle forward you will gain the clearance you need for the oilpan.  Im running hi-steer with under 3" of lift now that I lowered my junk.  I can get away with it beings my axle is pushed ahead so far.  If you put rears up front and drill your perches you will have a whopping 2" lift and no clearance issues at all.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

I've not seen it installed on anything less than 3", so you would be a first..

But remember that in the future, if you lift your truck, you might want to get some springs that move the axle forward about 1.5", and if you mount the crossover p/s box right now, then the draglink would contact the tierod if the axle is repositioned. Just something to consider for future reference. So definately push the box as far forward as possible-

You know I was trying to install HySteer on my truck as it is right now a couple of weeks ago, but there's no way in hell I can do it. My engine sits to low and to far forward. But I was comparing my clearances with Marlin's truck and he's got all kinds of room below his pan and drag link. He's got a 5" lift I believe, but still, I dont think he would ever come close to any interferences if he had flatter springs..

If you do it and then discover that it will in fact contact under full linear compression, then just run some taller bump stops. That's what I was thinking about doing for me. Sure you will loose some up travel during articulation, but the opposed tire would still be able to drop as far as it wished, and Toy front springs flex really well, far better than the rear springs..

It's definately worth a try. You've got my vote :beerchug:
