Cleaning out your 22-RE EFI
« on: Nov 24, 2002, 02:33:02 PM »
I was looking for ways to increase my HP on my 240,000 mile 4 banger and I read the article on Wild Yoats about cleaning out the throttle body and how it's full of "black goo" Well my friend and I both performed this on our trucks and we recommend this to anyone with a fuel injected 4 banger.  It made a huge difference in our throttle response and our power and I guarantee the same to yours ;)

What the hell are you talking about ROOKIE!  You know nothing about trucks! I don't even have a Toyota and I know more then you.  All you know is that you had 4wheel Parts install your lift with your parents money. And you don't even wheel it and you you want a SAS? What are u trying to do, look cool in front of all the real wheelers in here.

Oh yea i don't think so CHASE!  I do know more then you and you know it, and so does everybody else.  Stop kidding yourself.   I don't care if my jeep is a piece of crap, i will get a yota, and IF, i say IF you ever go wheelin for once i will out wheel you like no other.  I don't know why you would want a SAS anyway, you said yourself that your not going to wheel. ????  Im not trying to start things, but stop pretending that you know alot about trucks.

My truck was running crappy so I pulled the throttle body and found nothing but black goo! :reg: :o I cleaned what I could and put it back together. I instantly got a smoother running idle, and honestly, more power. I plan on yanking the whole intake this weekend and giving it a good once over. I'm considering doing the injectors too.

This does work. Balanced injectors add about 10 HP by themselves. When they are not putting out the same amount of fuel you get a rough idle and the computer has to make up for it by reworking the fuel delivery. Cleaning the intake helps move the air to the cyclinders more efficiently. On a high mileage engine that has never been cleaned out the air flow is massively restricted. When you clean that crap out it's almost like honing out your intake.

In actuallity it doesn't add power... it gets you back to where the power should be.
Change out your PCV valve too.

hey try using some stuff called power tune it's made by mercury/mercruiser boat stuff we use it at work all the time I use it on all my stuff my toy my wife's infinity it eat's away at the black goo or carbon hasn't  hurt any thing yet I even put it in my carb through the vent and let it sit over night and then you start it and let it warm up caution this stuff does smoke then rev the motor up and either close the choke or put your hand over the carb while reving the motor it causes high vacume in the carb and motor and will pull water and what other gunk is sitting it  the bottom of the carb through the jet's water will not go through the jet's it's got to be pulled out this stuff work's good for 2 stroke's also try it beat's pulling you intake all apart.

are there any high-flow balanced aftermarket injectors out there? Or is it just good enough to rebuild the old ones?
