84 externl reg to 87 ir alt swap

pre 86 22rs came with external regulator's for the charing system post 86 trucks have internal regulators in the alternator, my question is does anny body have info on swaping the 86 an up into an 84???? what kind of mods are involved?????anny info would be greatly apreciated.... :crossed: :conf:

Are you sure even the Carb'ed post 86's had an IC Regulator?

To the best of my knowledge yess.....every truck 86 an up ive seen out here  is ic....... :chug:

 :( ??? wow is there no one out there with anny info on this swap... :'( trucks sitting in the garage with a dead battery an chargeing system,, external regluated altanators are starting to get hard to find,, an friend has i brand new internal one ready to go in just need to find out whats involved in the swap... haveing to get a jump start on the trail is a hasel to say the least...so anny info would be greatly apreicated by not only me but my fellow offroaders here on guam ....

I had a wire diagram to that alt a while ago..Thats the alt I used to run in my sandrail..I can see If I still have it..It was pretty simple..its much like a 3wire gm.one is for a gauge,one is a 12v,,the other is switched 12v and the charge wire..Its been a while and don't remember wich is wich with out looking..If your going to make that kind of swap why not just go gm3wire..much more amp and cheaper to replace...I had problems with the alt you want to swap with..Off road light had a hard time to keep up,and it never lasted very long..couple of months compared to a couple years with my gm one..I will look for my info on your alt swap...

cool thank you ,, as for the gm swap am in guam an toyota rule the land  gm parts are costly an harder to come by, an when your truck is built on a dental floss budget  :o brand new alt that friend has sitting around is well need i say more,,, but thanks for the info... i will give the local parts stores a call an check on that gm alt for the future...
