Subject Truck is 85 Pickup with a Weber Carb.

Last night I finally filled up with 87 octane rather than my usual 92 octane because the prices are going crazy.  I don't mind paying 0.10 extra per gallon, but the difference is about 0.30 right now.  If I push the truck up a hill at low rpm it sounds like it is starting to ping, this doesn't happen with the 92 octane.  Am I correct to assume that the timing is advanced too much?

:help: Anybody want to give me a lesson in Timing 101, Timing on Toys for Dumbies or Timing...How To?  I know the process isn't difficult, but I have never actually done it and the truck needs help soon if I am going to run the 87 octane.

Thanks

Mine does that too  I just turned the dist back a degree or so     I had turned mine up to gain a few hp when I first got it. It was retarded pretty bad by the smog shop and had no power

Tonight I checked the timing on my truck and realized that the vacuum advance was actually hooked up backwards.  :smack:   Also, it was retarded rather than advanced as I expected.  I guess it is back to premium fuel since it is now pinging more than it did before on regular unleaded, but at least I know the timing is correct.
