Bald Mountain Run - UPDATED w/PICS and VIDEOS!
« on: Apr 18, 2005, 11:35:36 PM »
Ok I am editing this post since it's already here and it was cancelled before....

We are going to Bald Saturday of Memorial weekend. Next weekend, the 28th. A couple of my friends from school have invited me to go and ITS AWN! We've had a couple of warm rain storms in the Nevadas here so I'm expecting some patchy areas of dryness, otherwise it might be mostly very crappy snow conditions :gap:

So far I know of 3 other rigs who will be up there, 4 including mine, so lets get a group together!

OK IT'S OFFICIAL: We will meet at the Starbucks at HWY168 and Fowler Ave, this Saturday Morning at 7:00 AM early! That way we will have plenty of time to play!

Disregard the next 23 Replys below here, they are all old

Here's the previous information:

Bald Mountain is just above Shaver Lake, which is located about an hours drive North/East of Fresno, CA. So its in the Sierra Nevads right in the middle of Cali.

Here's Shaver Lake: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Shaver+Lake,+CA&hl=en

And here's Dinkey Creek turn off in Shaver Lake that you take to get to Bald Mountain: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Shaver+Lake,+CA&ll=37.099457,-119.306951&spn=0.019745,0.028950&hl=en

In the 2nd picture above Bald Mountain is near Dinkey Creek.

Here's another page when we did Bald in December: http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=7093.30

We will leave early in the morning and just have a nice day up there. We've heard that there is still patches of snow, but its really an easy trail that's just something close to home and its a great place to hang out and wheel.

I would say that if you had 31" and a locked rear diff, then you could make it to the top. There are alot of by passes, but still there are some challenging areas for setup rigs.

Anyways, if you'd like to come join us let me know by replying here.

So far it looks like Dean, Dave, Tim, CJ, Andy, Angelo, and myself will be going up there that weekend. Going to be a fun ride if you havn't been able to get out this year yet-

Here are some pics from our December snow run. Apparently the top has dried up now, but there are still patches of snow in shaded areas. The elevation is somewhere around 6,000 ft at the trail head to about 8,000 ft at the top.

Just bring a light jacket and some food!

side note:Mike I know you had asked about the hydro assist stuff awhile back. I finally got another box done with a ton of pics and started a new thread on drilling and tapping, didn't know if ya had a chance to check it out. http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=10579.msg107332#msg107332

Well my girl is going with me to the Jamboree so I've not mentioned anything about this event to her. I think she'll have to much homework to make it, plus this semester is nearly finished, but I just want to get out and play some :)

HEY GUYS! I have bad or good news?

We are not going to do the run this weekend.

A couple people aren't ready so we will just do it on the following weekend, May 7th or 8th!

For those who were gonna go with us this weekend, Im sorry, and for those who couldnt make it this weekend, plan for the following weekend.

So I'm definitely down for either May 7th (Sat) or May 8th (Sun).

Any takers? :gap:

Is that Carlos's truck as in the orange one with the flatbed? Cool truck, wheeled with him a year ago in the snow.

Alright, I can definately go, now is someone going to be cool and offer me a seat or am I going to be hoofing it the whole way.  :kickbutt:   :ha_ha:

Seriously though, I'll kick in for some gas too.  :crossed:

If I go I will definitly be driving the orange  beast.  What I meant is if he wanted to go either with me or in he can drive up his jeep.  So far the only wheeling I have done in it was at death valley in January.  I am doing some mods to the flat bed so I can utilize more space, but I dont want to get to far off topic so when I get it done I will post some pictures.

Fred40  sorry if I go either my dad or my wife will be with me, so no extra seat

Hey guys,

Would anyone be sad if I cancelled this trip? :conf:

Dave, Angelo, and Tim are going to cancel, plus Andy, Dean, and Rocky are leaving to Cruise Moab and won't come either...

So that's 6 rigs that are cancelling, plus I just found out that I've got two hard math tests next week, so I think it would be best for me to stay home this weekend..

So anyways..............

Actually a friend of mine who I just spoke to today *might* be coming, and he has a 84 longbed with 31s and no locker or Crawler. TURBO (Tim) who is a Bald Mountain Pro, he might say, says that depending on the amount of snow, my friend should be able to make it to the top.

Basically, Ive seen numerous completely stock Jeep CJs and YJs make it to the top, Ive seen a stock Dodge Ram make it and a stock 1st gen 4Runner make it, but these are all when its dry and no snow. In all honestly, I do NOT know the trail by memory. The only time Ive actually driven it is twice in the snow, and I rode my mountain bike up it when I was like 18. So I cant say how hard it is, I believe there are really only about 3 or 4 tough spots. On the backside there is a hill called Hollywood Hill and thats pretty hard Ive been told, but I dont even know where that place is.

Tim could better answer this question but from what I understand a stock vehicle should be able to make it due to numerous by pass route, and the only real hard climb also has an alternate route up the other side of the mountain.

Regardless you should just come because its gonna be alot of fun!

So far a 88 Nissan Pathfinder with factory limited slips is coming and a 1st gen on 35s without and lockers is also coming.

Hope to see ya there!

Last call!

TURBO and I will be at the Starbucks at Herndon & Fowler @ 7am, and will be meeting two other rigs in Prather at 7:45-8am.

TURBO is going to show us around and take us to Hollywood hill and such, so we will be driving around exploring, so if you are coming up later in the morning/afternoon, we will be on Channel 10 so give us a shout and hopefully we will hear ya!

I will take lots of pics and post em up on Sunday!
