RCV Axle Boots
« on: Nov 19, 2023, 03:59:55 PM »
I'm thinking of putting the RCLT HD in my 2011 FJ Cruiser. I've seen past complaints about the RCV IFS axle boots not lasting very long. Has this issue been resolved or are they still a issue?

tl/dr;  Nope, but that should not ever make you think twice about the RCLT HD.  Big Mike has a solution (as always) I LOVE the set up on my 2008 Toyota FJ

Nope, I have them on my 2008 Toyota FJ RCLT HD on 40's" and will be replacing my 3rd Boot.  This time I am going to learn how to do it my self because I do not see this issue going away.

Please note that Mike's "Beer Can Crush" idea solves ALOT of the issues.  Beer Can Cush Solution; get smooth hose clamps, remove the oem bands, snuggy up the boot towards the wheel,  and use the hose clamps to position the boot (fyi I used heat shrink around the hose clamp to protect the boot and worked).

I hope that this helps.

I ordered RCLT a few days ago, I'm still waiting admittance to the RCLT group where I assume I'll find more detail on the RCV axles.  In general, with the changes you mention do you get thousands of miles without breaking?  I do 3000+ overlanding trips and don't really want to be rebooting a few times a trip:)
GX470 currently on 35's, triple locked.  RCLT on order:)

The original orange cv boots on my rcv axels didn't last a 1000 mi.
And most of those miles where on pavement as I was breaking in new gears.

From all the posts by folks on the fb RCLT owners group I will never use the orange boots.
I suggest you call rcv and insist upon getting the black boots on your axels.
From what I've heard even the newer orange boots will fail.

I have about 4000 mi on the black boots now with lots of good trails.
