Ok here it is. What is the bracket on the top middle of the front axle on an 85 4x4 for? It looks like a traction bar bracket facing forward? I can't find any reference for it anywhere in my searching. If it's a useless bracket I'd just as soon cut it off. See I told you it was a stupid question. I'd just like to triple check before I cut it off.

Ruger: it looks like a bracket for a 3 link, except it's facing forward.

Ovarok: nope not restoring it in the slightest which means it's getting cut off.

Thanks lone walker for the reply too. I was just waiting for a few more responses

Was never really needed in the first place.  Just another useless add-on from the designers.   :welcome:

The torque rod was needed with the original push-pull steering. Otherwise, you step on the brake and the truck wants to turn right. Ask me how I know.

If you are using cross-over steering, you should not have any trouble cutting it off. Oh, and the bracket opening is toward the front, because the torque rod extends toward the front.

jasonnorcal

Awesome thank you. Nope push pull is long gone it has crossover high steer 👍

I actually had a short section of a Honda tie rod (I think) welded into mine to account for the extra length needed post old school Superlift.
