We always torque 'em down to 65 ft-lbs at work...

OK, what brand of gasket did you use???  I have found that Victor gaskets will hold their torque, Fel-Poo will not, i do not know about any others, though...If it'sa Fel-Poo, retorque around OR before 1000 miles...my 79 blew Fel-Poo at 1200 or so, so 1000 is about right...

i've got an "engine seal" gasket and it said on the package not to re-torque it.  i'm using ARP head bolts that are torqued to 80lbs though so i think i'm safe anyway.

its a toyota gasket..... 65 ft lbs..... thats what i was told to torque it but it riped out the threads and costed me 45 bux for a head gasket and 47 for the helicoil kit... its set at 58 lbs.... what the toyota manual says... the manual says nothing about retorqing it so thought id ask!!  :beerchug:

I try to torque mine three to four times a week...especially before dates!   :D
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

When I had marlin build me a head he told me to bring the motor up to normal operating temp after I install the head of course. Then shut it down and retorque right away while it's still hot.  he said to back it off a half a turn and increase the torque to I beliece 63 ilbs. Don't quote me on the torque. And he said it don't matter what kind of gasket your running.  :yesnod:
