Pizza pizza... Skinny bias deestone 503 7.00 15
« on: Apr 13, 2023, 08:26:29 PM »
After puncturing 2 sidewalls on some nice firestone 31s we decided to go the extreme other end and try some 7.00x15 bias ply deestone 503 extra traction.   These are the 8 ply version.  They make a 10 ply but I couldn't find any for sale.  I ordered these from walmart.com for just over 500 bucks.  Balanced them with about 5 ounces of airsoft pellets per tire. They flat spot a bit for the first 5 miles but otherwise run smooth.  Ride quality isn't bad either.  These feel great with heavy loads and wheel great in most kinds of snow except crusty snow you can walk on.  They don't float much. You are in it even aired down but they somehow go anyway.  I wouldn't use them for a deep snow truck but for deep snow work duty they are great.

Excellent in mud.  I pulled a car trailer with a dead horse through a bunch of gumbo on the Prarie and it was nothing.

We have seen these in action on old farm trucks and they are very popular with the demo Derby scene where they frequently are spun on sharp metal.  Really an indestructible no nonsense tire.

These look right at home on a 1st gen.  Mount up just great on stock steelies.  I ran out of 1st gen rear brake spares this winter dealing with our water crossing so I did an involuntary wide track conversion with a 90s parts truck rear end I had..  The 3 inch wider stance looks better with the ghastly skinny tires.

These are basically 31s with a 5 inch tread patch.  Tread depth is hard to explain as the carcass is round.  Plenty deep though.  These are directional with the chevrons facing forward.  I picked up a matching spare which I will rotate to the right rear.

Old school 😎

Bias ply tires do pretty well, especially off road.  I've always wanted to get a set just for off roading.  But they are not good at longevity.
Miss ya Dean (4THEWKN) & Kyle (KYOTA)!!

No I can't imagine these will last very long.  The cheapness puts them in the same bucks per mile of more typical radial mud terrains though.  My kid got bias buckshots.  Outstanding performance  but they are expensive per mile.

We should do some math haha.

How do you like them so far?  We ordered these for a customers project but it turned out to be a trailer.  Wish I could get em in a 35 for my 80

As an active 4-wheeler and daily driver, BY FAR the very best tire I ran was the old Yokohama Mud Digger.

That tire did EVERYTHING extremely well.

I was a very soft compound and super wide.  Floatation was incredible at 5 and 10 PSI.

Noise on the highway was surprisingly acceptable.

However, they did not make it passed about 20,000 miles for effective off-road traction.... just my opinion.

If I were to tire-up my Toyota for serious 4-wheeling again, I'd be running a set of Yokohama Geolander X-MT.

Regarding costs.... everything about 4-wheeling has a cost factor... so does eating, drinking, illicit drugs, visiting a Casino, and prepping for SHTF event.

Axles, gears, MC t-cases, suspensions, and the bling - all have a cost factor.....  happily we have lots of choices.
