CA state referee for 5vz engine change

I have a few questions for those who ref a truck 5vz engine into a 94-95 4runner 3.0. I'd ref 22ret into 22r etc but haven't messed with the 5vz stuff.

I have access to a totaled 1995 t100 5vz 3.4 automatic 4x4. I want to completely swap this engine and transmission into a 94 or 95 4runner 3vz automatic. This will include the harness, ecu, and all necessary components. I was told *don't know how true it is* that I can not use an engine/ecu from a truck chassis and put it into a suv or vice-versa? It must be truck to truck or suv to suv, how true is that? I would assume they will find it if they run the ecu part number?

Anyone successfully done a swap similar to this? Use an engine, harness, ecu from a truck and swap it into a 4runner?

My friend did it to a '90 4Runner in CA. He said everything came from a Tacoma - engine, ecu, etc. He even did the AC. But maybe make a few phone calls to know any details/hoops you might jump through.
