2RZ distributor removal?
« on: Aug 24, 2021, 04:41:29 PM »
I'm trying to remove the distributor on a 1995 2RZ. Is it just the two bolts that need to be removed? I've pulled pretty hard on it and I'd like to be sure I'm not missing something before I get too ruff with it. The FSM says to disconnect the distributor connector ( I assume this is the electrical plug) and then to remove the hold down bolts (I see two) and distributor.

what yer doing sounds right. should just unbolt and slide out. id recommend putting #1 cylinder at top dead center so it will be easier to clock when you stab a new one in. i will say ive never played with the 2rz, just 22r so hope someone else can chime in that has experience with that motor.

That's right where I'm at, never pulled a dizzy on a 2RZ. It definitely isn't just sliding out. I've got it set at TDC. Plan is to pull the head for a head gasket and timing chain. Engine is at 275K miles  :gap:

have you tried a small prybar or screw driver.

I tried a screw driver, not too hard though. I did pull on it pretty good a few times. I want to be sure I'm not missing a hidden bolt or something before I give it the Macho Man treatment

maybe theres a hidden both. the only other thing i can think of is the dizzy is stuck with oil or crud, or you drained the oil and it dont have lube.
edit: unless there is another bolt prying on it should free it.

Shot some penetrating oil in there, let it sit and it came out.
