What size wheels will fit over new Tacoma brakes
« on: Sep 23, 2020, 12:13:51 PM »
So obviously the brakes on these trucks suck even with 29” tires  so I was just gonna upgrade to V6 calipers but after looking around I discovered front range off-road fabrication makes a very nice looking kit to fit the current Tacoma or even forerunner brakes... the site says the forerunner brakes require 17 inch wheels but it doesn’t specify what size wheel the Tacoma brakes will fit under... I assume someone here knows the answer to this?

Awesome looking kit though it also looks like it frees up the early wheel hubs (because the kit uses modified IFS wheel hubs) and then they (the non IFS hubs) can be used for another kit that front range off-road makes that converts your rear axle from a semi floating to a full floating as well as gives you the ability to put modern forerunner disk brakes in the rear as well as fit a parking brake.

I have never had an issue with stock rotors and v6 calipers. Literally have had passengers head hit the windshield. I personally hate the look of anything larger than a 15" wheel on an early toyota.

Yeah I agree I like 15’s on these trucks so I might go with the kit that allows you to use the first GEN Tacoma brakes which I believe you can fit under 15 inch wheels. I would just use the V6 calipers but I need the parts off my front hubs for my rear hubs to move over to a fully floating rear axle and I want the extra 3 inches I get from switching over to ISF hubs up front. Also I really like that this kit allows the rotor to fit over the hub so you don’t have to press out your wheel studs every time you service your rotors.

16.5’s would be fine if I was going to put like 37‘s or 40s on but I don’t think I’m going any bigger than 33’s maybe not even that big.

I believe you have to grind the calipers to use 15s.
