Howdy! Tanner here. New owner of a 2010 Toyota Tacoma Pre Runner. Just started modifying it for rock crawling.

Welcome.  :driving:

I have no idea what your level of knowledge, experience, interest or passion is for rockcrawling as a hobby or sport. In my early days, 4-wheeling was my passion and almost an addiction.  My rockcrawlers were also my daily drivers.

Looking back in time causes a change in perspective or wishing for a do-over for most of us.

One thing I would do differently is protect my truck from damage very early in my trail running. Other than a custom designed and built buggy, it is nearly impossible to rock crawl a typical trail and NOT get damage.  Body damage is the worst.  Chassis and drive train damage is usually the most costly.

What's my point?  Three things you might want to consider before you find yourself on a nasty rock crawling trail and go home that day with a painful feeling.

1.   Be prepared to mentally and financially to experience damage to your vehicle.
2.   Spend money and time prepping your vehicle with body and chassis protection - especially rocker panel sliders, bumpers, and chassis skid plates.
3.   Successful rock crawling requires lockers, gears, and tires, usually in that order.

To be More Truthful, Rockcrawling properly will require observing others and learning from both there and your mistakes and victories on the trails. Have as much fun as you can getting experience reading the terrain for the best possible path and stay safe with the proper protection for you and your vehicle.  To rockcrawl you will also need 4wheel drive, Pre-Runners are only 2wheel drive, but you can still get some great off-road experience in that rig.   :biggthumpup:
