Marlin 1600lb clutch kit year questions
« on: Nov 26, 2019, 06:40:41 PM »
Long story short I have a new 1600lb clutch kit still in the box ( MCCL-123H ) it says 1981 - 1988 but I'm going to building a newer 22re for the 1982 truck. Will it work if the engine is newer than 1988? Transmission that'll be going in is M/C L52HD

Edit: I can't find what the difference is if I use the a pre 89 flywheel, what's the difference that happened to the 22re in 1989? Tried searching the www. to no avail

I recommend calling Marlin and talking to them. They are good with this swap info and will give you a hard answer.  :turtle:

The only difference between the 81-88 and the 89-92 clutch is just the throw out bearing.  It was in two pieces in 81-88 (with the cast iron collar and a bearing), where as in 89-92 Toyota started using a one piece bearing that came with the collar manufactured in.  They are the same size bearing and can be interchanged with no problem.  93-95 they did change the size of the clutch and flywheel to 9 5/16 from the earlier 8 7/8.

This leads to the question... can I use the new one-piece style throw-out bearing with the manufactured in collar in place of the old two-piece design?

Thanks for your reply to this old conversation.
