Line up the mark on the crank pulley to "0" on the timing cover.  Point the rotor straight up and down, when you slide it in, it will click in, and slide to the left, pointing at the #1 cylinder.  Hope this helps.

So is the motor off a and injected truck and you put your stuff on it or just the valve cover
87 runner, 4" trailmaster lift, 33" TSL/SX, 5.29's V6 e-locker, 22re that cost too much

valve covers interchange, he could've gotten a 22RE and swapped a 22R intake and carb on it though.

as far as installing the distributor, here goes.  line up the mark on the crank pully with 8* BTDC on the #1 compression stroke.  take your distributor and stick it in but not enough to mesh with the gear.  rotate the distributor untiil the bolt hole on the head is about in the middle of the slot on the distributor where you put the bolt through.  now put the rotor on temporarily and rotate it to 12:00.  push it in, and it'll turn over to about the 10:00 or 11:00 position.  pull the rotor off, and line up the reluctor tooth(one of the teeth on the star) with the pickup(it'll look like a little line, you'll figure it out).  put a little gray rtv on the distributor bolt and torque it to 10lbs.

then fire it up! :beerchug: i've done it 3 times using this method and i haven't even used a timing light, mainly because of the fact i don't have one.  it's always ran great this way for me though
