Hello. I am fairly new to offroading, even though I've owned a 4wd pick up (for work) my whole adult life. I've always been a big fan of Toyota trucks and SUV's, so about 4 years ago I found a nice bone stock one owner 3rd gen (1999) 4runner with 2.7l 4cyl and 5speed tranny (I love this combo),and started building it. My intention was not to build a rock crawler, but a more than capable trail rig. This is the first vehicle of any type that I have ever modified, and it has been a lot of fun.

What specifically brought me to this forum is, almost 2 years ago I installed an inchworm gear dual case (wanted Marlin Crawler but they were out of stock for over 6 months) with 2.28 gears. I am going to be purchasing a rebuilt tranny (W59) from Marlin Crawler soon, because my sychros are very worn. And while I have the tranny and t-cases out I would like to regear the crawl box with 4.7 gears. I'm hoping this can be done.

So if any one knows where to point me, I'd appreciate it.

I look forward to learning lots more about this great hobby.

Thanks

:welcome:  If you check in the 4.70 gear section on the Marlin web site they have the install instructions right on the page, it explains it well.  At the top of the page you'll find a "TECH" button that'll give you all kinds of great info as well for all sorts of mods.  Have fun.

Thanks for the reply and the info. I had looked at that, but got confused. I currently have a crawl (reduction) box with 2.28 gears in front of my stock chain drive T-case. I would like to purchase the 4.7 xd gear set, but am unsure if it will 'mate' to my chain drive T-case?

Thanks again

I don't think Marlin recommends the 4.7's in the front box as it multiplys the tourque too much for the t-case behind it.  Call or email them for a real answer as opinions vary among "who's-who" on the web.   :twocents:
