Flowmaster?
« on: Apr 10, 2005, 08:14:50 PM »
a buddy of mine just gave me a flowmaster 40 original series 2 1/2in in/out muffler. i dont really like the sound of them on a 6 or an 8 but have never herd them on a 4 cylinder. i was wondering since i have no cat if 2 1/2in pipe to the flow and a 2 1/2in tail pipe will be really loud. i have aglasspack with 2in exhaust on my 22re right now would it be louder than that? i was thinking about trying because mabey it will change my mind about flowmaster mufflers. anything will be helpful.
i love playin in the mud

I would lean away from it.  That flowmaster will get really old, driving with it resonating and constant drone in the cab.  I have a full 2 1/4 setup now without a cat and a three chamber and I hate it.  I am going to replace it with a $15 turbo from summit.  Also, that 2 1/2 inch pipe will get you nothing but power in the upper rpm range and a nice ricer sound.  The flow may not be louder than the glasspack, but the sound will be very different.

The sound that a flowmaster makes varies greatly with what/how many bends are in the pipe.  I have a thorley beader, no cat and a 40 series flowy.  When I had 2" pipe the flowmaster was behind my seat and the tailpipe exited in fron of my driver rear tire it was borderline throaty.  Now that I have 2 1/4" and the muffler is right in front of the axle and exits behind the rear tire out the side it sounds like a very pissed off chainsaw.  Its one ricer sounding bastid.  Im going to change the whole exhaust this summer so Ill live with it for now.  Ill still replace it with a flowmaster but Ill use a deltaflow most likely.

I have a flowmaster 2 1/2 single chamber race muffler and it made my truck sound a lot beefier. A friend of mine said my 22r sounded like a v-8 when i was driving away from his house. The pipe exits out above the rear axle, which is a lot better than having the exhause cut off after the cat :hammerhead: .  Id suggest looking on ebay and finding a cheep flowmaster.   :turtle:  :usa:

I ran a flow 40 series on my Honda accord 2.0L and it sounded great with that and a K&N.  It sounded awsome when I got on it but when I was just cruisin it was pretty smooth, and not irritatingly loud, plus it gave me a few more HP :D

I have A downey header going into 2 1/4 and a 40 series.  Th muffler is right behinde the cab of my 4-runner and i think it sounds good but the low rpm drone that it makes does get anoying.

Yes! :yesnod:   I love   flowmaster but I hate their prices  .  The price would be the only thing that leads me away but so far I managed to get the two for my trucks free. .  Go with the flow..........Flowmaster that is

You can get a 40 series through ebay.  Look up performancepeddler.  I think he recently jacked his prices they're now $46....but it's only like $12 shipping and for $60 or so you get 1...which is better than $110 each through a dealer or shop.
