New Old Guy with a Project in Mind
« on: Sep 25, 2018, 08:38:28 AM »
Hey, I'm Todd, a California escapee that now lives in Colorado.  I have "built" a Cherokee, a Samurai, a Tracker, and a TJ.  I'm no stranger to pouring cash down the project hole but most of my stuff has been mildly built for crawling The Rubicon, Moab, and daily driving.

I recently bought two (yes, 2) 1988 Toyota 4x4 Vans.  One is a runner with high miles and the other is for parts with ridiculously high miles.  Both are 5 speed with hi-lo transfer cases and freewheeling hubs.

I plan on a streetable trail explorer van for the Rocky Mountains that I am new to.  I am researching engine swaps and figured MC would be a good place to look.

If anyone has any experience building one of these, please let me know!

 :welcome:

I had an 87 van that was mildly "built" (heavy on the quotes, there... :shake: ) with some coil spring spacers from a Ford Ranger and cranked torsion bars to get about 2.5 to 3in of lift (rode like crap :D ), some 15s with some narrow all terrains that I had to beat the daylights outta the fender wells to get to fit. I loved that van! I got into some crazy places out on the trails with that 80's retro futuristic mars rover! Toyotavantech and Toyotavanpeople were my go-to forums for modification information.

I'm next on the list to escape CA...  :outtahere:
