MojoSlim

Hi all,

MojoSlim here, checking in from the South Puget Sound.  Recently upgraded my daily commuter from shoes and a bicycle to a 1980 Toyota 4x4 Solid Axle Pickup with 20r.  I haven't owned a motor-vehicle in over 5 years, but I want to get back out in the woods hunting, and the shoes 'aint cutting it.  When I began researching parts to tune-up/upgrade, google kept returning a bunch of pages from this forum.  Signed up and hope to pick your brains once i start restoring this old Yota.

It drives well (for a 38 year old vehicle), except what I perceive to be a rough idle and a very stiff ride due to a leaf spring swap the previous owner did.  Other than that, seems responsive and had enough power to keep up with I-5 traffic the day I picked it up.  But I'm pretty sure it could get a tweaking here and there to get it running to the full potential of the components.

I've never gone too deep into DIY mechanical repair (not for lack of interest).  Most experience I have is with changing oil/filter, radiators and alternators.  I like to know how to take care of the instruments I own - be it tuning up my bicycle, setting up my acoustic and electric guitars or service work on my firearms - I just don't really know any gear heads or how to start learning to service my vehicle.

Anyway, I've already learned quite a bit just browsing, so thanks to all the regular contributors, here.

Best Regards,

MojoSlim
