Hello all -New to this forum

I'm trying to make sense of transmission ID/compatibility.  I'm dealing with a 1986 carburated PU.  The five speed went out and I've determined from the firewall trans code plate, and the fact that it has an 8 bolt retainer, and 4 bolt shifter plate that it is a g 52 trans ??? I hope I've got that straight.  Any help would be greatly appreciated and also any insight on what other transmissions options would be compatable/preferable.  Do 22re engines use the same bellhousing bolt patterns etc. ?  Thanks in adavance

Some good info here, looks like you should have a G54. https://www.marlincrawler.com/transmission/rebuilt-complete

Thanks - that is good info.  Why would the trans code on this truck say G52 I wonder?  and what is the difference?  do they swap out behind motors?
