Body Swap wiring problems
« on: Sep 25, 2017, 03:47:47 PM »
It is time to ask for help. Last year going into MCR I put my rig on its top. The driver’s side was pretty messed up, A,B and C pillar were all pushed over towards the passenger side. So I decided to do a body swap. I got a good deal on a very straight body, but it did not have any wiring harnesses (# 1 mistake). So I pulled all the harnesses out of the old body.

Here is the problem, I put all the harnesses in and got them all hooked up including all the grounds.

Installed a battery to test and see if I let any of the smoke out of the wires, all good.

Now the problem, I turn the key all the way to start, the fuel pump comes on, I have no CEL when I turn the key on, or juice to the igniter/coil but when I turn the key all the way off, the fuel pump keeps running until I disconnect the battery and I can hear the COR and EFI relays turn off..

I have tested all the relays and they all test well I downloaded the wiring FSM for my truck to make sure I have everything hooked up, all looks good to me.

I think some of the spliced grounds in the wiring harnesses may have broken loose, but not sure and I really do not wat to take them out and open them up if I do not have to, but I will.

Any suggestions?

With no engine light and the pump running w/key off, have you checked the ignition switch?

Ran the test on the ignition switch per FSM, with the key all the way off there is not supposed to have any continuity on any of the terminals, one does, does that mean it is bad?

Next question, how in the heck do you get the ignition switch off the steering post. It has some funky bolts/nuts that look like they have been soldered!!

It has been a few years, but as I recall the electronic portion of the switch attaches to the back of the ignition lock, you have to drop the column to gain access.

Does the new swich test the same, showing continuity where you aren't supposed to have it?  If so, that could be the circuit that is the issue.

The fuel pump would run key on if there was an issue at the afm.
Not having power at ignitor/injectors and ecu is where id start.  Depending on how long the truck had been apart are you sure the COR or EFIR aren't weirding out.
I haven't done tons of work on third gen, but are you sure there isn't somewhere you couldn't have swapped connections?
hold this. . .
