New Member - 1987 Xtra Cab SR5 Turbo 4X4

Hello All!
I have owned this truck for about 4 years now.
Have done some work and am close to getting it running and hopefully driving one of these days.
It was originally sold at a local Toyota dealership and has been on our Island its whole life it looks like
This is my first post so I wont have any pics yet.
Work done so far is freshened up the 22RE-T engine, new CT26 Turbo, SAS with RUF and chevy 63's in the rear.
Full cab and box off "restoration" of the frame and coated with POR15

hey it worked.

ok so this one is the first pic I took of the truck, after I had started to tear into it...
fender was dickered on it and came without a bumper.
this was from 4 years ago, so I have made some progress

love the turbo badges

Started the cutting of the brackets for my SAS, it was slow and messy.
the truck came without a front diff and I wasn't about to source out an ifs diff ......... so started cutting.
I already had a front axle from an 84 pickup, which I got on trade from a buddy for one of the engines I wasn't going to use anyhow.

after I got most of the cutting done I removed the bed and found my tank was full of very old gas, smelled like hell.
drained it out and found that it was full of rust.
so it had to go.





As I go through pictures I have of my progress I see I didn't take as many as I had originally thought.



In May 2014, we got a special gift  my daughter! she means everything to me hence why my project slowed down severely.
We ended up moving twice, to downside and save some money and my truck went into storage for about a year, we then moved again and i got to bring the truck home!

My daughter is now 3 and really likes to hang out while i work on the truck

Now that ive had this truck home for a while ive got a lot done. just need to catch up on here with you guys.

  Kids are the best. my girls love helping me work on vehicles and coming to my shop.

Purchased some 63" chevy leafs for the rear of my truck.
Purchased the TG spring mount for the rear and made my own front hanger out of some 3" square steel.



GOODBYE spare tire carrier



Since the carrier had to go I used some steel to reinforce the rear of my frame, looks good and is going to hold up for a long time.



it was a perfect fit inside the c-channel of the frame, pounded that baby in all the way and burned it in.

so around this time last year, I had a rolling chassis again.



pretty happy about that because I got a chance to POR15 the frame and get my cab and box back on my truck, and out of my front yard !



as I painted the frame with that stuff, my glove ripped and my hands got COVERED in it, wear gloves, two pairs if you have to because once its on you..... it doesn't come off.
Not easily at least.
Once it was completely done I was very happy  with the way it turned out!
In the pic posted I was about half way done.
I used a Pint on the truck. covering it pretty thick. but I still had enough to do both axles once the frame was completed.

in Canada it cost me $65.00 for the pint of POR15.

It has been a while since I have posted last.
Cab and Box are back on
Engine and Trans are in.
Got some crap tires from a truck I had, but were good rollers my other set had a leaker.

It is summer now and I have no time to tinker on the truck. there is more stuff piled up in the box than ever, poor thing needs some attention.
So this is where the old girl will get it!

I crack a beer and hang out with here every now and again.
