Skid steers have four cylinder diesel engines in them.  I have heard of many Heeps using them but never a Toyota.  Im not sure if its a     cummins  though. It'd be sick to have a cummins in a Toyota, good luck.   :turtle:  :usa:

If you can find a yard that gets in the old Frito-Lay delivery trucks, they used to run them. Don't forget that these are not a light motor either, right around 700lbs. IIRC, a couple hundred pounds heavier than even a small block.

Search for specs on the 4bt first. I think they are around 800 lbs. That is way to heavy. Also I think they are a little big. Look for the Toyota diesel, you will also need the bellhousing to match. Or even a Nissan SD22 / SD25. You can use a bellhousing from a ScoutII with a SD33 and adapt it to fit your trans.

Look here http://car-part.com/index.htm

SD22 1981-1984 Nissan pickup

Scout bellhousing 1980+/- with SD33

you can get imported toyota turbo diesels that will bolt up from l.a. or s.f. for 1200, search on www.toyotadieselmadness.com for imported engines or somthing like that.

Where did you get it?

Make sure any thing you get is complete fan to flywheel inc starter and alt. or you will be waisting lots of time searching for the other stuff.  Most will be SD22, but there are a few SD25 out there.

Toyota has 2L , 2LT , 3L Try to find one with manual injection pump, not electronic. Note that Toyota uses a timing belt that if breaks will bend all your valves. Nissan uses a chain and with the Nissan you can use a Scout II bellhousing from one that has a SD33 6 cyl. Then you should be able to use any trans you want and it is a light engine compaided to the 4bt.

What is the power like on the nissan SD22 compared to a 22re?  and will the scout bell housing work on a R-151?
Thanks
Joe

Toyota 2LT on eBay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33615&item=7966545738&rd=1

I am guessing the SD22 has around 60 hp at 3000 rpm. The torq will be higher than a gas engine at a lower rpm.

I don't know if the R-151 can be made to fit the scout bell housing? The scout used a Amercian made trans with the SD33 6 cyl Nissan diesel. The SD22 4 cyl and SD33 6 cyl are the same engine family so the bellhousings should enterchange.

Cummins' Power!!! 4cyl Cummins engines are common in ag pumps, and IIRC will bolt to a TH350, if you don't mind driving a sleeper!!

Yeah, they have a chevy bellhousing bolt pattern. I don't mind building one up for some sick torque! They came out in the Frito Lay trucks also
