New guy from southern NV
« on: Dec 05, 2016, 06:39:06 PM »
Hey my name is Scott, im new here.  Been wheeling for a long time, just getting back into Toyotas. I had an 81 long bed years ago, it was a fun truck. I've spent the last four years building my '89 Suburban into a camping/wheeling rig but I keep pushing it harder than I should so I'm buying a yota to crawl with. Now the suburban can take it easy, going camping and towing the yota.  I figured it would be a good idea to sign up here and start learning.

Ok how about an update? I went down to Southern California last weekend and brought home an 83 pickup.

I'm new to the Toyota thing, so I've been underneath it every day since I got it home. I plan on cleaning up the wiring, adding a winch, new seats and an exocage but it's pretty much ready to wheel as it is.  It's pretty well built, it's got a jasper 22r with a 261 crawler cam, Weber carb and a Doug thorley header. It's also got a GM 1 wire alternator and a York air compressor with two tanks under the bed and hard line run throughout. The trans is a W56 with a leaky slave cylinder, I'll take care of that his weekend. It's got dual cases with 4.7s and twin sticks in a big ass trailgear skid/cross member. Apparently the transfer case mounts are really good ones, I'm not really familiar with it. The axles have detroits, 5.29s and chromoly 30 spline shafts.  I'm not really sure how much lift it has, it looks like there's a 2" body lift on it but the springs are a mystery to me. The rears are 52" long ruff country ez rides, the fronts are 45" and I have no idea what they are. I plan on lowering it a little by pulling a leaf here and there as it rides a little stiff. I need to get it out on a shakedown run first. It's sitting on 37x12.50r17s with 1.25" wheel spacers all around.

I don't think I can attach photos yet so I hope this works.

Does anyone make brackets to mount corbeau seats in these first generation trucks?
