Fitting bucket seats
« on: Sep 04, 2016, 11:00:09 AM »
I am trying to fit 1990 4runner bucket seats into my 1994 dlx toyota pickup, does anyone know how to make the rear bracket closest to the middle line up with the hole? Can I just un rivet the old bracket piece from the bench and rivet it back onto the new buckets? I really don't want to drill new holes. I can post pictures if anyone needs them.

They should bolt right up. Post the pics you got. Maybe the slides are slightly bent?

Some guys have made and bent little metal brackets to make seats line up.

Might be able to swap out mounts.

Does the bucket seat inner mount line up with the split bench seat belt mount? If so, use that one, then mount the seat belt inner mount to the transmission tunnel, there should be a factory threaded mount under the carpet.

I have not tried the driver side, I will try that when I get home, then I will tell you. I will also be posting either pics or videos of the process.

Had my buddy do it for around 150. If you take it to a shop they will quote ~300.

I just want them to be safe if I get in an accident and roll over or hit something. I don't want me or my passenger to get extremely hurt.

Before I swapped the cab, I swapped in bucket seats in my 3rd gen. Only spot that was missing was the front bolt near the trans tunnel for each seat. For the seatbelt bolts, I just used the rear seat mount bolt. A bolt is a bolt.... But if you've got the energy to wheel hard enough to get into a rollover situation, by golly, you'd better have the energy to drill and bolt in your seatbelts properly...

Is there a way to just take this foot off and put the fit off the old one on? Can I just take the whole rail off the old ones?

I was thinking maybe I could take the rivet off that leg and put the old seats leg on, I just don't know what I would attach it with. Maybe a bolt, lock washer, and lock nut.

That was what I was thinking with the seat mounts. I will have to check them out to see if it is possible.

Ok, I think I have found a solution for the passenger side. i can remove the original seats slide and put it onto my new seat. This picture is the new seat. I am going to remove my old seat and try it out. I will keep updated

Looks good. Do you know the year the seats came from? Cause i didn't have to modify anything. Then again it was going into an 87 PU not a new 90's style.

It does look like you are on track there. If you have to drill the bed, make sure to use some silicon and seal it so it doesn't leak into the cab.

Also why not fab up a little bracket to hit the one missing  bolt hole and leave your seats in one piece?

I sadly don't own any mechanical or electric metal working tools. :(

Buckets are from a 90 the original is a 94. I am going to try and find a good place to go that has a welder and metal tools they will let me use to make a bracket. I am probably just going to cut the foot and weld a piece on then re weld the bolt piece so it is longer.

Does anyone know what type of welder I would need to weld a bracket onto the seat and make it safe? I am thinking about getting a welder so I can actually do stuff. Any suggestions on beginner welder ?

Any decent MIG welder will do. It won't take much for the seat bracket material.  Any 110 MIG would do that.  Try to borrow one and see what you like.

Do you have any recommendations? My garage has 220/240 outlets for big tools. So that is not a limitation

Esab and Miller have MIGs that all you have to do is set the gauge steel, and the machine sets the amperage and wire feed speed, makes it kind of 50% idiot proof.

I like Hobart, started offer with a 110, now have a 110/220 unit.

I have the Lincoln 180hd. I like it. It's 220v, and I really like that I can adjust the speed myself. You have to experiment with different speeds and voltages. The speed that works for my won't always work for the next guy...

This just isn't working for me right now. I really don't want to drill holes in the floor, weld, or screw up my interior. I can't get these seats to fit oem, I would just replace the brackets but then I wouldn't have the lumbar or the bottom cushion level, and I don't know if that would work. Here are pics. Help please....
