thanks guys, here is a couple of pics of what I'm doing. going to use the existing spring hanger for a bump stop, also going to press in a leaf spring bushing into my hanger to offer some resistance on the droop

UNBREAKABLE

I'm in the middle of it right now. I will try to get you some pics tonight.
That's how I roll

rhundl

well I got my rear axle ripped out of the truck and the new one in place. I am going to mount my spring packs tommorrow hopefully. do I need to run a high angle drive shaft (cv type) or do yall think that a regular u joint shaft will work. I am stretching the rear axle back about 8 inches. I think a regular shaft will work but with the flex I m not sure. I ll try and get pics up.

rhundl

hey guys I got one of my springs mounted on the truck today. I am super excited about this. goin to mount the other spring tommorrow

MidgetMike

Thats bad ass.  I dont know much about 1/4 eliptical suspension, but it looks like the axle is going to be moved back a few inches.  Just wondering.   :turtle:  :usa:

awsome work
Rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.
There are only 3 kinds of people in the world, those who can count and those who can't. Which are you?

was blocking the sun rays from the camera lens with my hand. The springs are from a 1990 chevy 1 ton p/u 2wd

I am using chevy bushings in the spring hangers. I just took the bushing out of the other end of the spring after I cut them.

backseatwheeler

cool i been contaplating this idea for a while to after you get it together let me know how it works. also what do you plan on doing for the other 2 links?  or you gonna 3 or four link it? main problem i heard for this set up is there is no downward force applyed to the spring when flexed so its hard to get traction. i seen this on a guys truck last year at the tin bender jamboree guy rolled his truck 3 times no problems though thanx to a exo cage but he just had 2 links plus the springs i think he rolled it cause the suspention was to soft. but he also had smaller springs to. you will have to let me know what you think after you get it all together this is a sweet build though keep up the good work. also let me know how the road characteristics are.

RustyToy

what the heck? how does the axle fit on this. ur very brave
I'd like to quit thinking of the present as some minor insignificant preamble to something else~~~~~

rhundl

going to go four link. I wanted to do triangulated lowers but havent decided how i was going to do it yet. i am saving up money right now for the tubing and heim joints(the most expensive part of the whole rear) so i have some time to think about it.

backseatwheeler

yah triangulater links are a good idea if not you get alot of rear wheel steer where you getting the hiem joints from and how much?

rhundl

i dont know where I am getting the heim joints from yet. I was looking at btf but those are kind of expensive($50 or so), also contemplating using tractor links. I went to tractor supply and bought a top link for a tractor($23 for both the right and left handed heim in a swedge tube) . I dont like the 1" 8tpi thread on the end though. I would much rather have a fine thread for the strength. Do you have a good lead on some reasonably priced high strength heims?

here is a pic with the 14 bolt in place, but not even close to bolted up
