:willynilly:  Gov. Jerry Brown signed six stringent gun-control measures Friday that will require people to turn in high-capacity magazines and require background checks for ammunition sales, as California Democrats seek to strengthen gun laws that are already among the strictest in the nation.

IMHO, simply a typical (though expected) knee-jerk reaction to a violent crime, with no consideration, explanation, or justification as to how or whether this new legislation could have / would have prevented the criminal act in the first place.  :smack:

Looks like I will soon be the owner of an registered assault weapon (at least 1, maybe more...)

Will you be allowed to keep them, or required to turn them in?
From the article:
QuoteThe measures Brown signed will:

- Outlaw assault rifles with a feature known as a bullet button, which allows shooters to use a small tool to quickly change magazines

- Ban possession of magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds, requiring people who already own them to turn them in to authorities

that is not even the half of it... if any law enforcement sees it, they can take it on the spot, and they will issue you a fine as well

Calif sucks big time, crooked government taking away our rights every damn day. Everything from fishing and hunting to mining in the "Golden State" is going down the sewer. I've lived here all my life and am moving to Nevada just as soon as we find a suitable house. Calif can kiss my...!!!

Depends if Trump wins in Nov., if Hildabeast or the Dems proxy wins, we will be forced to turn them in as SCOTUS will have an anti-2nd majority, which if that us the situation, surrendering our hi-cap mags wont matter as we wont have any guns to use them in.  As soon as SCOTUS has an ant-2nd majority, CA's legislature will try to be the first to ban all guns outright, and there wont be anything that can be done to stop them.

Move to MT!
If SCOTUS has an anti-gun majority, moving out of CA will only be a stop-gap measure, once the Dems have both houses of Congress and Hillary/Dem is POTUS, guns will be banned nationwide, like with ACA, it wont matter what the State's want, they will allow comply with the Feds eventually.

Unfortunately based on how little the majority of Americans seem to have cared about the IRS, Benghazi, Hildabeast's illegal server/selling access to the State Dept, and now w/the WH/DOJ forcing the FBI to ignore the law in order to protect the socialist movement, I don't see too many of them making enough noise to generate the 2/3's majority needed in both Houses to be able to call a Const. of States.  Besides if the populous doesn't wake up by Nov. 8th, even if/when enough people get fed up with the system, they wont have the means to do anything about it, the Court will be lost to the Socialists for the next 30-40yrs.

We are a nation of "Laws", and as such we have been conditioned to follow the Congress's/Court's decisions, there was no great uprising after Black and Women's suffrage even though the voting populous did not support it, same with the Courts striking down of Jim Crow era laws/forced end of segregation in the South, and just as with the ACA, the end of the 2nd & 10th Amends., along with restrictions placed on the 1st, 4th, Amends when they effect the Socialist message, will be met with the same reactions.

Fortunately for reasonable folks...it doesn't take a majority of Americans to change things, it only takes a majority of voters.

I may be overly optimistic, but, I sense the silent majority is getting fed up with being criticized, take advantage of and taken for granted.

True, often not even a majority of voters, IIRC something like only 10% of the colonists actually took part in the Revolution, and it is estimated about 40% or so actually supported it.

Reading a lot of the replies to articles on various political issues online, I would have to agree, we will have to wait until Fall to see if that relates to votes.  Unfortunately here in CA it wont, the Dems are entrenched and wont be going anywhere, redistricting and the 1st/2nd primary candidates going to the general election has insured that, in '14 several districts had just a choice between Dems, or not much of a choice at all.

I think the only way CA will change is either through force from SCOTUS if it remains a conservative court, or if the Reps retain Congress, Trump wins, and the Reps push through a national open carry/gun laws similar to how the Dems did the ACA, i.e. tie self-defense to healthcare, that way it can be an interstate commerce issue, and issue the Court already ruled on as the Congress's domain.
