It is just that 1 gear, everything else appears fine.... no galling, or bluing of anything, or anything else like that...

It is the first gear on that shaft

Ok, so I talked to a machinist today, that said he didn't know squat about trannies, but that the metal wasn't blued.....

He turned my flywheel :)

while I was there, a friend of his came by the shop. old school gearhead, and he talked to me a bit in detail about my trans... he said I need to just get another trans.... he said it looks like the actual spots where the forks ride are not right, and there is some galling, super shiny parts... said I might have a bent rail, (or 3) and also the forks, are messed up, and also need a new 5th gear.....
he said just that little bit of rail/fork issue could have caused it to not shift properly, and be my issue.....

so, I want to find out if the 04 bellhousing is the same as the 03 housing.... below are pics of my 03 housing with the slave removed. I guess I am looking for the ball pivot mount hole... is it there?

At this point, I just want it to run, I don't particularly care if I run the 03, or 04 setup....

Also, talked to my machinist friend, and he said to just leave the rear seal alone if it isn't leaking (definitely does not appear to have any leaking going on)

just a bit of history on my machinist friend, he has been an automotive machinist since 1979, and he owns a race car of his own, it is his hobby, but he doesn't advertise with it, just races it... it is a 468 Chevy, running 110 octane gas, NA, and weighs 1800 lbs... his Dial in is 8.60 and he runs mid 150s. It is a Nostalgia series, 1932 Bantam bodied, funny car chassis. His shop actually rebuilds entire engines as well, as machine work

I was told that I should run dino oil in it for like the first 500-1000 miles to break in my new tranny... then drain, and fill with the good stuff. how does everyone feel about this?

I don't want to have to go through this ever again...

I already know to not drive like a moron, for a little while

and yes, I know I don't have an EVO even though I drive it like it is......

You don't need dino oil if you're breaking in just bearings.

Dino would be used if you changed synchros and there's new gears.

found out why it wouldn't bleed...... my slave blew up.... had a huge puddle on the ground under the bellhousing

also found a gear oil leak, it is leaking from that round seal that covers the snap ring that drops the shaft......

and since the tranny is now on the ground...... I had to drain it.... fluid looked clear while draining, but in the pan, is a dark grey color, and has gold glitter in it......

at least the clutch disk is ok....

I found out that I can drop my trans by myself without air tools in about 3 hours.... and I just bench pressed it out, lol

FML.......

I think I figured out how to use my vacuum bleeder correctly though, so when I do the next one.......

here is the part where it is leaking gear oil from, also here is the pic of my gear oil with my hand in it for a color comparison, it is gray, with gold glitter in it -- but it only has 3 miles on it, is that normal?

gold glitter sounds like the brass/bronze synchros.

Does a magnet attract them?

I would think it would take longer than 3 miles to show up......

no, they aren't magnetic, and I am sure they are the synchros, it is really fine, I am not too worried about it...

So I sent the wrecker an email, he said he can send me a new plug, and also that the builder uses gray assembly lube, so that is why my oil is that color

I am giving them until Monday to respond. Then I will take action with PayPal

I did buy a new Exedy clutch off ebay, and it came with a new slave.... from Clutch City Online

is there a way to pre-bleed it? I just don't want to run into any kind of issues.....

also, what is the thread size of the bleeder?

but lost about 2 weeks worth of having a working car, so couldn't do any TaskRabbit and make $ ... and the aggravation of removing and reinstalling it... again......

so remember I said it had a leak, found out why today, hopefully this is something I can fix, or minimize...... it is a littel difficult to see, but the issue is that someone went through the mating edge to pop out the plug, instead of going through the plug, like they were supposed to

they did send me a new OE plug for it

I'd file it no part of the gouge is 'above grade'

Then extra ultra black or grey at that spot when installing seal.

Then once the seal is in, smear ultra grey/black over it.......

I fixed my motorcycle transmission leak until I finally got around to fixing it correctly

and

my timing chain cover to cylinder head is still sealed with ultra grey on the outside (I didn't pull head to change timing chain and the gasket got tweaked) .     Been that way for at least 10 years........

so what is a little weird, is it looks like there is a corresponding dent like that on the plug that was in there, like it stuck out, and the builder hit it in the rest of the way with a screwdriver....

Ok, so looking @ it again, it looks as if maybe the builder reused the plug, popped it out with a screwdriver from the side to rebuild it, then put it back in

you can clearly see it was a little warped from my hole through the center, but you can also see what appears to be a screwdriver smack on the side, which might correspond to the side of the hole in the tranny seat

Unroll the sealing surface so that's it's flat.

A perfect surface would be   ------------------------------------  'at grade'

The gouging looks mostly 'below grade' but some parts may be 'above grade'

You might have ----------^.......^^.....----------   ^ is 'above grade'   ... is 'below grade'

File off the ^, and fill over the ..... with ultra grey/black

ok, that is way more confusing, lol

basically, file flat where it sticks up, and just toss extra rtv in that spot?

I swear, I am overthinking it, I will post pics tomorrow... I will also degrease the area and more with a rag and brake parts cleaner. after it is in, I will do a coating on the edge of the outside....

I ground the gouge flat, cleaned everything up with brakes parts cleaner, including the outside of the case, then put sealant on the plug, then hit it in with a rubber mallet, once it was flat, used a huge socket around the edges, then coated around the edge to the case -- I will be letting it cure for several days in the garage while I am waiting for my new slave to come

so.... just an update

it isn't leaking from the plug, the clutch works, I have around 500 miles on it now, and I spent a day last week @ Ovrarok's place doing the timing belt.... we actually did it twice.... anyways, we did it, started it, and it had a horrific tick... we thought we had screwed it up, so we did it again, same tick, but while bleeding the cooling system of air, the tick got quieter and quieter..... we drove it around, and parked it.... everything seemed good.... we looked up valve adjustment, and there isn't one! apparently, there are these valve lashers,  that store oil in them and because we had the right tire jacked up and the motor jacked up on a cherry picker, it drained it! So we parked it for a few hours, and hung out.... when it was time to go, we started it up, and it was quiet as a mouse.... turns out those lashers get drained at extreme angles, according to my FSM

Dave had an awesome idea since my license plate was just screwed into the plastic with self taping screws, and were stripped out..... He put a threaded nut rivet into the holes after I drilled them out a little bit.... a permanent solution, using bolts instead of screws that just rip up the bumper and pull out

now I just need to do the rear brakes, and check/change my gear oil -- going to check a small sample first, and if it isn't nasty, I will leave it and just top it off, if it is nasty, I have 4 more quarts
