Hi Everybody,

New to the forum, but not to wheeling. I recently had my headlights stop working, and have been running circles trying to figure it out. Everything else works fine. I replaced the relay (which is clicking), the fuses, and even tried another combi-switch. No change.

I know its not the bulbs because when I jump the relay they both come on, lows work, highs work, and dash indicator works. If anybody has any insight, or has experienced this, please help! :)

Im trying to get the trouble spots to check, so I can avoid chasing wires. :smack:

I appreciate any help, and can't wait for my first MCR!! MCR 15!!

You said you replaced your relay, but I think it is your relay.

check your grounds

When I was learning about cars, I remember learning that 99% of electrical issues were due to bad grounds

mudmaster You are refering to the fusible link between the batt + to fuse box?

There are 2 fusible links from the battery that go to the wiring loom on the passenger side. 1 of these is for the dash/running/headlights at least on a first gen.

Ok, so when I get off im gonna go check my grounds. 1 at fender by BATT, 1 under exhaust manifold, 1 on the back-block to fire wall, 1 on back of power steering pump?

jimbo74 What makes you think it's the relay? Relay bad, or bad connection at fuse box?

Thank you all for helping me!

just because the relay clicks doesn't mean it is working... you said you jumped the relay, and everything works

mudmaster  Are you refering to the fusible links in the fuse box? Or the wires themselves?

The fusible links are in the engine compartment. They look like any other connection. I don't have a pic, but you should be able to find them by following the connections from the positive battery cable.

for the most part, the fusible links look like they are either short wires, between 2 connectors, or they have like a plastic tab on the wire

Replace the headlight switch. The switch is ground activated. By you saying you jump the relay and it work makes me believe the headlight switch is internally shorted/bad connectivity. Just my  :twocents:. Have you made any changes on the column? New steering wheel? Anything that would lead to this problem?
