22RE front main seal leaking?????
« on: Jan 21, 2016, 08:47:35 PM »
Front main has leaked since I bought the motor rebuilt.  Tired of replacing gunked up belts, and swapping out Alternators.

So is it the harmonic balancer/pulley that is where the groove is at?

I don't want to speedy sleeve it, or buy a very specific seal for a Celica, if there is other options.
Miss ya Dean (4THEWKN) & Kyle (KYOTA)!!

Pop off the pulley from the crank (didn't even need a puller with mine)

The only seals worth a damn are the Toyota ones.

The newer ones are thinner, so if there's a groove you can position the seal so the lip isn't in the groove.

I think you told me this before.  I have heard of several other ways too.  Supposedly, some cars had different seals, and some are wider, some need a lip trimmed off, and various other methods.

Not a fan of a speedy shim.  Since its a long term bandaid.  I just would rather spend the money and do it right and not have to worry about it for 200,000+ miles.  I had experiences with a prior 4x4 that I believed the mechanic and this would fix that, only to have the same issue happen again in less than 6 months.

Why not speedy sleeve. It's not a ghetto fix when it saves you the cost of a balancer in my opinion. My 81 is running a speedy sleeve.
