E-Locker Blinkin'
« on: Jun 23, 2015, 07:39:10 AM »
OK I have a buddy with a 200? double cab tacoma.  Typical TRD, 3.4/auto with electric rear locker.  His locker won't engage and it goes blinky-blinky on the light or switch when he tries to engage it.  He wants me to help him fix it.  Of course being me I think he should weld it up and throw the switch away but that's not his goal.

Where should I start?

How long has he had the rig?  And has it worked before now?

I know that you have to be in 4lo for it work.  I've never played with them in a factory setting.  Always with a backyard wire job.  Just need temp power for it to actuate in or out IIRC.  Check a fuse or to see if power it getting to the unit.

Has he not used it in a while? I've had them seize from not being used for like a year after running in lot of water. Just had to pull it, clean it up then put it back in.

I've also had that switch on the elocker go bad where the locker would work but the light would always blink.

I would just pull it and see what it looks like.

He bought it like a year ago and it has always been like that according to him.  He was aware that it won't work in high range.  He's interested in the "grey wire mod" where you ground something so it can engage whenever.  That's something else I need to figure out.

He engaged it the first time while in some deep snow while cougar hunting and it didn't engage and switch blinked.  I'll go ahead and pull it.
