Cam information
« on: Oct 01, 2014, 09:37:01 AM »
How different are the 20r and 22r cams. I have a 20r with a 22r cam in it and the guy I got it from assured me they're almost identical. Is this true or do I need to go back to a 20r cam? Any help is usefull

They are the same or at least very, very close based on what I found.  It will work fine anyway...  If the information I have is right there is a pretty substantial difference between early carb cams and EFI cams, mainly a bit more lift and alot more duration on the intake side of the carbed cam.  They still work in either application though.

I just had a shop tell me they were completely different and and that's why my truck is running rough haha I think it just needs a valve adjustment and a carb rebuild

If you have a 22re cam (from an EFI truck) it might run kind of lousy but if it came from a 22r it should be just fine.  In theory the carb cam should create more manifold vacuum, I think.

If you look at most aftermarket grinds they are identical applications for 22r, 20r, carb, efi whatever which tells me it shouldn't make too much difference.

Anybody else have anything to add?
