Zip locker question
« on: Nov 16, 2013, 02:08:06 PM »
Hey guys, I'm installing a complete 3rd member that I bought from MC.  It's a toyota v6 with 4.88s and a zip locker.  I'm installing this in a 91 star cab v6 p/u

The 3rd member came with a plug in the ABS port.  Should I remove the plug and install the ABS sensor or do I have to scrap the ABS with the new diff?

Need some advice ASAP.  Need to get this back together tomorrow

thanks!

Does the ring gear have a tone ring on it? If not you will lose the ABS, it may also set some codes.

I thought the tone rings were on the outer ends of the axles shafts.  Is that only newer models?

The sensor on my 91 is located at 12 o'clock on the diff housing, just over the ring gear.  I don't see anything that looks like a tone ring.  Then again I've never seen a tone ring.

Any help is appreciated!

Just take that freeze plug out and install your ABS sensor.

Roger that.  I popped the plug out last night and plugged in the sensor.  I haven't had tested it but after lookin everything over closely I couldnt see any difference between the new and old diff.

Thanks guys!

Must be that the sensor picks up the teeth on the ring gear as the tone ring.
