Topic: 1GR-FE transmission compatibility?

I currenty run the stock RA60F (05 tacoma, 4wd) six speed, and have found it to be very unreliable.  I replaced the factory trans with a new one from Toyota at about 30,000 miles on the odo, and now at 75,000 the new one is also junk.  I understand some of the internals have been updated in the 2011+ six speeds, but I would prefer to move to something more reliable.  My question is what else can I swap in?  Is the 5 speed R155F (from behind a 2TR-FE 4cyl) direct bolt in swap? What about swapping in the A750F automatic? I know the auto bellhousing will match up, but what about overall length and the ECU?  I know this is the right place to ask the question, you guys are a bunch of Toyota geniuses. Thanks!

I would imagine the parasitic drag would be substantial, although that is a nearly indestructable option and it would open up many "New process" T-case options as well.  Wyatt? How is your auto holding up?

Any new info on this topic, my bro is pretty much running into the same issue, except he fixed his tranny, and now it's acting up again
