Diff Problem
« on: Apr 01, 2013, 06:19:45 PM »
Not sure exactly how this happened...

I was rebuilding my diff with a set of new gears from Yukon when either the dog knocking over the diff or perhaps took a chuck of the threaded section of the housing out where there adjuster thread in. So the adjusters wont thread in now. Do you think I could take a dremel and file the burs down so they thread in? Ill try and get pictures this weekend. I wanted to cry after I realized why my adjusters wouldn't thread in.

I know, happened right after I got depth and preload set and was just about to seal put on when I saw what happened. IS THIS REAL LIFE!

Ill probably pick up at least a new housing, but Ill post pictures when I can to see if anyone think its still usable.

I'd like to see pics of what you got going on. From the sounds of it you may not need to replace the housing. If it's just the corner edge near where the cap mates to the housing I would say fix the threads carefully so the adjuster rings turn freely and easily and you just might be ok. But pics would be better for making that call. :yesnod:

Also, do you think it would be acceptable to at least get the carrier set in so I can finish rebuilding my axle so I can just pull the shafts later and change the carrier out? I really need to get my garage cleaned up before I forget how it all goes back together!!!
