Brakes won't bleed properly
« on: Mar 14, 2013, 03:55:44 PM »
A little rundown.  Ive got a 82 pickup, I just installed a 1" bore master cylinder, LSPV bypass from summit, IFS width rear with all new brakes and wheel cylinders.   I bled the brakes, bench bled the MC with it in the truck.  The first time I hit the brake pedal it goes to the floor, I have to pump the pedal to get the truck to stop.  Any ideas?   Im at a standstill and have no idea where to go from here.

How are you bleeding the brakes? Longest line to the shortest.

"...This is from the FSM and it works great..."
1. Drivers side rear
2. Passenger side rear
3. Passenger side front
4. Drivers side front
5. LSPV (Load sensing proportioning valve)(if you still have it)

If you do it this way and still have "soft pedal", take the MC back off and re-bench bleed it.

also use a rubber hose and a bottle of old fluid, so no air gets sucked back in the system,  also check for leaks,  all fittings and wheel cylinders for leakage
Ive installed brand new wheel cylinders before and had them be junk

Yes I was bleeding them in the correct order, and I don't have the LSPV I took it off and got the Summit adjustable valve.

Thanks for all the advise.   I got the pedal feeling alot better, I adjusted the rod that goes from the pedal to the MC.  She's stopping like a new one now!

Make sure you leave little free play on the brake master cylinder pushrod, or else the brakes will start to lock up. :twocents:
