Opinions: D44 or FROR housing
« on: Feb 24, 2005, 07:49:43 PM »
Opinion time. My bro wants to go SAS on his Taco and what do you guys think about front axle options? He's thinking d44 with driver side drop, ctm's and chromos or custom FROR diamond housing + chromos + 30 spline Longs. He'll be running 37" MTR's.
Probably run 5.38's in the D44 to match 5.29 rear taco axle(ok for off-road but not on). FROR housing  would be 5.29.
I'm wondering how they would come out $$$ wise? Probably close?

D44 would be cheeper, but the FROR yota axle would be stronger, except for maybe the r&p.

Yeah, that's the genral consensus, but not too much stronger r&p. One advantage of the FROR and 8" 3rd is you can match the front and rear gears for 4wd on the street. 44 is way cheaper but not really strong unless you run chromos and ctm's from my webwheeling research. :gap:

No, No Hyena,
you brought up a good point. From what I've found on PBB etc., the d44 r&p is a bit stronger than the toy 8", but not super stronger. You're right about  price though, d44's way cheaper(plenty of waggies).

But wouldn't highsteer cost more for the 44?  Thats what i have heard.  You goota have flattop nuckles for the arms too.  Should have a list and prices for both axles and see what the difference is.
