Speedometer gone haywire
« on: Apr 15, 2012, 09:21:11 PM »
So a couple weeks agos I was driving to a trail on the freeway and my rear driveline flange got loose causing my speedo to not work until I tightened it up then it started working again. Fast forward about 150-200 miles and my speedo stopped working completely. It catches slightly at around 3500 rpm in 5 gear. Any ideas what the problem is? My speedo cable is all hooked up and I've had my cases installed for about 15k miles with no problems until now. Here's a video of what it does.

I had an 89 runner do the same thing.  Ended up replacing the cable and all was good.  Mine also squeaked every time it surged, pretty annoying.

Make sure the plastic gear that goes into the T-case didn't get chewed up. The metal drive gear may have moved enough when the flange got loose to damage it.
