l43 to w56 trans swap
« on: Mar 22, 2012, 08:05:35 PM »
I just bought a 80 yota with the 4 spd l43 in it. The trans is busted up and was just wondering what is all invloved in swaping out for the w56. The engine has been swaped out to 22re already. I was wondering if i had to swap out the flywheel and clutch or anything like that. Just need some help as I amnew to the yota thing.

clutch and flywheel are the same but the fork, slave and throwout bearing are different.

the w56 is about 6 inches longer than the L43 so you will need to move the crossmember back and your driveshafts need to be swapped for the newer truck (what the w56 came from) or you'll need to shorten the rear shaft and lengthen the front.

almost the same as you would have to do if you installed dual tcases.

OR  you can get Marlins L52HD   http://www.marlincrawler.com/transmission/rebuilt-complete/l52

Thanks a lot for the info. I rebuilt the l43 but I have someone that going to give me a w56. I plan on doing the swap seeing how there is nothing good said about the l43.

yea, did I mention the L52 would bolt right up to the truck with no modifications other than a slight mod to the trans tunnel but none to drive shafts or cross member.
