Help!!! 22re starting/running/idling issues!!!
« on: Nov 27, 2011, 10:30:43 AM »
So the last month my 88 yota started to bogg at idle and a steady speed down the road.

1. I changed the vaccum lines and spark plugs
no change

2.changed the spark plugs wires...
now, no start, it turns over great but no fire?

3. changed the fuel pump
getting fuel through the system.... cranks over good, fires up 3 sec. and then dies....

4. changed the TPS sensor...
same symptoms as #3, check EFI fuse. (good)

So im really lost on this one.... truck might be going into the shop tomorrow, not looking forward to the cost....help!

just talked to a buddy of mine and he's thinking injectors....the rig used to be a V6 and the old fuel filter was left in(behind the starter), the new filter is in front of the tank, we removed the old one and it chunky with rust????

the air flow meter seemes to be working fine when starting, not 100% on that tho

Have you checked for codes? Did you pull the old filter?, did anything change?

I assume this is a 3.0?

This sounds similar to some problems I've had in the past.

First time it was water or moisture inside the top of the mass air flow box.

Second time it was the computer. Marlin and I spent some time trying to figure this one out luckily he had a couple spare computers laying around and the instant we changed it my 4runner came back to life.

a common sign of the afm being bad is a start and die, over and over, the fm wont keep the fuel pump on after it initially starts
