Gold prospecting?
« on: Aug 07, 2011, 10:59:20 PM »
Anyone out there searchin for gold? With the alltime highs, I'm suprised that more people aren't. If you do prospect, what do you use? Pan, dredge, highbanker?

x2

Im going prospecting for a few next week. we high bank because CA outlawed dredging. however, i know a few people who dredge in southern OR. its a lot of hard work, but its better than working a crap job. its bonus points for being out in the woods and good exercise.

There are a few threads on pirate from Alaska that have been panning in creeks.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

I did hear about the dredge outlaw in Cali. But the GPAA is going after them on that (half the reason we re upped our membership). Out here in CO there really aren't too many restrictions. You can get a permit for up to a 4 inch dredge and you can dredge anywhere that ISN'T Gold Medal Water. (World Class fishing, flies and lures only). We use a Keene 2.5 suction dredge when dredging. But when esplorin new area we have a Minelab Eureka and a Tesoro Lobo.
Keep this one goin. I wanna hear/see what yall do and or find out there

I could imagine there bein tons of people out there after the "flooding" from the dam. I've heard that Oregon is a pretty good place to try for gold.

Heres some pics of what I run
The Keene Eng dredge. Old venturi style

The many sluices that we use.

The one on the right is one that I made for clean up. No riffles just black ribbed matting. I will set it up in the next couple days and take some pics of it in use. I have some concentrates that I wanna go thru

Did some clean up on some black sands that I had saved up with my mini wash plant. The flake is too small to catch with my camera but it looks like the stars in the night sky on the black pan
Heres the wash plant

Yeah we do. Everytime we go out we take the detectors. We have a Minelab Eureka and a Tesoro Lobo. I havn't found anything big yet. Some rusty metal mostly, mine cart track, nails. I still have to figure out the quirks of the machines a little better.

I just picked up a pan.  I got a small creek that has a ton of quartz in it.  And they say, you find quartz, you can find gold.  It's those what the hell things.  That and there is Gold Creek on the Nehalem River that has a gold in it.  I would just love to find a few grains to say I found some.

I've also been told that if you find black sand on the beach, it has gold in it.

Gold does travel with both black sand and quartz. BUT not always where you find quartz and black sand will you find gold. The black sand its heavy like gold so there is a good chance.
Good luck with your pannin! Post us some pics if you find andything, hell even if you don't.

The GPAA has some commercials out on the Outdoors channel that make alot of sense to me. Its not the advertising that Buzzard is doin but the other words he speaks We are members, have been for a while. http://www.goldprospectors.org/portals/0/swf/player.swf?file=/stats/track.asp?mtr=/Portals/0/video/articles/GenInfo/TheBuzzardIsBack/Buzzard Commercial 2 web.mp4&allowfullscreen=true&allowscriptaccess=true&autostart=true&obj.addChild(chd);Stretcher.stretch(obj,config[%27480%27],config[%27270%27],config[%27stretching=fill%27]);
