full width HELP!!!!!!!!!
« on: Aug 29, 2011, 09:03:06 PM »
So i am going to run chevy full widths under my 90 runner. now the question I am needing answered is the SAS is 29" center to center. I measured the axle and if i do the springs 29" center to center it would put the spring on top of the pumpkin. So i need someone who has done this swap or has seen one close to let me know how or where to put these springs.

why wouldn't you line them up w/ the frame rails?

if anything you'd want to move them outwards for stability... moving them in will give you flex but horrible results for REAL trail use.

Build a new cross member and do it right.. We've had people do that dumb :pokinit: and hack into the pumpkin and weld a plate on so they didnt have to build a new cross member and do it right. No its not 29" for fullwidth. Its 31.5 IIRC.  So build a hanger around that or.. buy one of these if you're lazy like me http://www.sky-manufacturing.com/new/detaproduct.php?id=184 and dont worry about it.

yea probably, if your cross members wider then i'm sure the shackles @ the frame are going to have to compensate for the extended distance.

you dont HAVE to if you dont want to have wider at the top shackle tubes. you can just make a setup for straight shackles and weld them to a plate to outboard them off the frame.

^ If you don't do this or something similar your springs are going to be inboard @ the frame rails (shackles) and your gonna have problems.  Like mad twisty spring flex  :D

lol. I just saw what sky offered to fix this problem. do you think running the springs in the same spot in the rear is cool? (leaf conversion)

you'd probably have the same problem in the rear as you would in the front. not sure what axles your running but if they're too far inward then they won't be doing much good for stability...

you can build a boxed in mount on the frame and do like a drop box in the rear. If you did a drop box i'd recomment cutting it into the back of the frame so it wouldn't increase height.
