bump stops
« on: Mar 04, 2011, 04:58:27 PM »
a few years ago i bought a marlin 5" sas with chevy springs out back using lift blocks. i broke a marlin spring so made a front pack out of my old rear springs mixed with a few marlin leafs. it lower the front about 1.5-2 inches. i plan on taking the blocks out of the back. should i keep running the bump stops that came with my sas swap? is there a rule of thumb when it comes to bump stops?

Mum Yes!!!!!!! You need them so you dont flatten the spring too much, so they dont bend or break.

don't know if this is true or not but I remember hearing a guy said w/o bump stops, you can get negative flex and put too much tension on your tie rods.  :dunno:

Keep the bump stop, it's just for reassurance but there for a good reason.

Also, using shocks to limit travel can break shocks

only way i could see that as happening is if your tie-rod was contacting something...right?

correct.  even then, you would probably break a leaf due to extreme negative arch before that happened.  your tie rods shouldn't come in contact with anything.
