Clutch fork & bearing lube
« on: Feb 17, 2011, 12:44:01 PM »
It's pretty standard practice to put a little grease on the bearing contact points on the shift fork, and the bearing sleeve, right? I mean it says to do it in the manual, and I'm pretty damn sure it says to do it on this site.

I was at Napa asking what grease I should use, and both of the guys there were just plain adamant about not putting any at all on there. To the point where the guy was getting a little worked up..."I don't care what the freakin manual says, no way you should grease on there". His reasoning was that it would find its way to the clutch disc.

I just gave up and said I'd find out exactly what grease to use on my own and buy it somewhere else.

The FSm calls you molybdenum disulphide lithium base grease or MP grease.

I calls for grease on:

Fork and hub contact point
Fork and push rod contact point
Fork pivot point
Clutch disc spline
Rlease bearing hub inside groove

Realease bearing.

If you glob the stuff on it might, just use a small amount and you will be good to go!

If you see it, its for sale.

Yeah, that's what I've always done in the past, and what I was going to do again, I just couldn't believe the guys at Napa felt so strongly against it.

Transmission is back in (with correct parts lubed) and truck is back on the road. Lost a little respect for Napa...they're always been good before but those two guys... :slap:

the sad thing is how far napa is above the other mass parts stores. Their parts are quality and where i buy alot of my parts.

I use to use a small private parts store. That is where it is at, always get what you want and truely knowledgeable staff. sadly they closed.
If you see it, its for sale.

I have always put grease there and never had it cause a problem and I've probably done like 5 or 6 clutches over the years.
